Programme Background

This programme is designed specifically for individuals who want to delve deeper into Psychology and require the students to complete quality research (thesis) writing. The programme aims to produce graduates with expertise in the sub-areas of Psychology and dynamic thinking as well as conduct systematic research on current and social issues. This programme is designed specifically for individuals who wish to pursue Psychology discipline at an advanced level. It covers compulsory courses in major specialty areas such as Research Methods in Social Sciences, Statistics for Social Sciences, as well as Issues and Cases in Counselling Psychology.

Entry Requirements

1. Master’s Degree in Psychology (MQF, Level 7) or;
2. Other qualifications recognised as equivalent to a Master’s Degree (MQF, Level 7) approved by the HEP Senate

NOTE:

• No direct admission from Bachelor’s Degree level (MQF, Level 6) to Doctoral Degree level;
• Candidates with a Bachelor’s Degree level (MQF, Level 6) who register for the Master’s Degree level programme (MQF, Level 7) can apply for a conversion of registration to a Doctoral Degree programme within 1 year after registering for the Master’s Degree programme subject to the following criteria;

1. 1. Has demonstrated competence and ability in conducting research at the Doctoral Degree level;
   2. Rigorous internal assessment by HEP

English Competency Requirements For International Students:

Obtain at least;

1. International Language Testing System (IELTS) with a minimum score of 5.0; or
2. Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) (Internet based) with a minimum score of 34; or
3. Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) with a minimum score of 160; or
4. Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) with a minimum score of 180; or
5. Pearson Test of English, Academic (PTE Academic) with a minimum score of 36; orStudents from English-speaking countries are given an exemption from the above condition (a); or 
6. Students from English-speaking countries are given an exemption from the above condition (a); or
7. Students with academic qualifications from Institutions that use English as the medium of instruction are given full exemption from the above condition (a).
