Programme Background

The Bachelor of Islamic Finance (Honours) degree programme is designed to produce a generation equipped with financial knowledge based on Islamic shariah principles. Graduates in this field will gain insights, skills and expertise in the Islamic financial system consisting of three sub-areas namely Islamic banking and finance, risk and takaful management, as well as Islamic financial planning and management. Graduates will obtain understanding in Islamic finance in comparison to conventional, and will be able to tap into the level of Islamic Finance from the theoretical and practical aspects. The curriculum available in this programme is in accordance with the standards set by the Malaysian Islamic professional bodies in finance namely the Islamic Banking and Finance Institute Malaysia (IBFIM) and the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA). Graduates will also be awarded with two Qualifications Certificates from IBFIM, Associate Qualification in Islamic Finance (AQIF) and Intermediate Qualification in Islamic Finance (IQIF) (Banking).

Entry Requirements

1. Passed Matriculation/Foundation or equivalent with a minimum CGPA of 2.00 and passed Mathematics at the SPM level/equivalent; OR
2. Passed STPM or equivalent with minimum Grade C (CGPA 2.00) in 2 subjects and passed Mathematics at the SPM level/equivalent; OR
3. Passed STAM with minimum Grade Jayyid and passed Mathematics at the SPM level or equivalent; OR
4. Passed Diploma (Level 4 MQF) or equivalent in Muamalat and Islamic Finance or related field with minimum CGPA of 2.00 (For candidate with CGPA below 2.50 but above 2.00 can be accepted subject to an internal evaluation process); or OR
5. Passed Diploma (Level 4 MQF) or equivalent with minimum CGPA 2.50; OR
6. *Passed DKM/DLKM/DVM in related field; OR
7. Other equivalent qualifications recognized by the Government of Malaysia.

Note:

1. The requirement to pass Mathematics at the SPM level/equivalent for candidates (i), (ii), and (iii) can be exempted if the candidates have other qualifications that contain Mathematics subjects and their achievement is equivalent/ higher.
2. Students need to take Arabic Proficiency in the early study except for the student that pass Arabic Proficiency in SPM/STPM/STAM/Foundation/Diploma or equivalent/higher.
3. The student needs to pass the Arabic proficiency subject as a prerequisite before being allowed to take the related core courses. However, this stipulation does not prevent students from pursuing other subjects whether core or non-core that do not require the Arabic proficiency subject.
4. Credit value for the Arabic proficiency subjects is an additional credit of the program and can be taken into account for the purpose of graduating credit with a minimum CGPA 2.00.

Career Prospects

Graduates have the opportunity to contribute their expertise in Islamic finance and banking in the global, multinational, local and non-profit organisations. Graduates can venture into Islamic finance and banking as Islamic finance executives, Islamic banking officers, Shariah advisors in Islamic finance, Shariah committee officers in Islamic finance, takaful operators, and practitioners in the Islamic finance industry.
