The Development and Security Department was rebranded from the original Development and Maintenance Department in August 2016. In line with this initiative, its roles and responsibilities were expanded. Various efforts and activities related to its functions and responsibilities, which are now not only focused on creating a conducive campus environment that commensurates with the full university status. The security of the university assets and its campus community are now its main focus.

The department prioritises good maintenance in order to guarantee that an asset is capable of giving satisfactory returns. An asset must be maintained in a more effective and professional manner so as to gain the best value for money. As such, effective maintenance requires a more efficient and comprehensive approach. Maintenance shall be given emphasis, especially for assets for the teaching and learning processes at the university, so that there will be no disruption, thus avoiding long-term losses.

This department is moving forward in pursuit of the progress and development of USAS, in line with the objectives and intent of its establishment which targets 100% of the infrastructure, facilities and vehicles maintenance at USAS to follow the prescribed schedule.
