The Postgraduate Studies, Research and Consultancy Department was formerly known as the Development Centre. It comprises two units, namely the Postgraduate Studies Unit as well as the Research and Consultation Unit.

The Postgraduate Studies Unit is responsible for handling all matters related to academic management, examination, registration of postgraduate students, class scheduling, viva voce as well as matters involving the academic system of students and academics. Its goal is to ensure that matters related to learning as well as academic management of students and academics to be in order, and that the enrolled students graduate within the stipulated period.

The objective of the Research and Consultation Unit, on the other hand, is to strengthen the university’s role and make the university an institution of higher education with expertise in the field of research and consultation. The main functions of the Research and Consultation Unit are:

1. To be the focal point for study and research programmes;
2. To develop and update training modules and training needs (TNA);
3. To be the training coordinator within USAS; and
4. To function as the knowledge and reference centre as well as coordinating strategic collaborations in academic disciplines with experts from other institutions in knowledge and training.

The Research and Consultancy Unit has introduced the USAS Special Research Fund to encourage USAS academics to delve into the field of research. A sum of RM2,000.00 per researcher is allocated. In addition, the Unit has published scientific works, both referred and non-referred. These works include Himpunan Karya Ilmiah Edisi 1, ISCIS Islamic Civilisation International Seminar Proceedings and Case Studies. The journals listing includes the Global Journal Al-Thaqafah (GJAT) which is indexed under Scopus.
