Programme Background

Diploma in Islamic Finance programme allows students to gain insights, skills and expertise in the Islamic financial system. Students will be able to understand the fundamentals of Islamic and conventional finance from the theoretical and practical aspects of Islamic banking, takaful, Islamic capital market, currency market, risk management, public finance, international financial regulations and other relevant fields. The curriculum available in the programme is in accordance with the standards set by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA). Students will be exposed to theory and practical learning outside of the classroom environment to produce high-skilled finance graduates based on Islamic values. Students will also be exposed to many teaching methods such as case study analysis, industry and/or department visits and practical training.

Entry Requirements

LOCAL STUDENT

1. Acquire SPM with credit in 3 subjects and passed Mathematics or equivalent; or
2. Passed STPM with minimum Grade C (CGPA 2.0) in any subject or equivalent; or
3. Passed STAM with minimum Grade Maqbul; or
4. *Passed SKM Level 3 (Level 3 MQF) in related field and acquire SPM with minimum 1 Credit Or
5. Passed a recognized Certificate (Level 3 MQF) or equivalent in Muamalat and Islamic Finance or related; or
6. Other equivalent qualifications recognized by the Malaysian Government.

Note:

1. The requirement to pass Mathematics at the SPM level for candidates (i) can be exempted if the candidate has other qualification that contain Mathematics subject and their achievement is equivalent/ higher.
2. The needs of Arabic Proficiency subject also apply to candidates for Islamic Economics, Islamic Finance, and Muamalat Management except for the student that passes Arabic Proficiency at the SPM level/equivalent.
3. The student needs to pass the Arabic proficiency subject as a prerequisite before being allowed to take the related core courses. However, this stipulation does not prevent students from pursuing other subjects whether core or non-core that do not require the Arabic proficiency subject.
4. Credit value for the Arabic proficiency subjects is an additional credit of the program and can be taken into account for the purpose of graduating credit with a minimum CGPA of 2.00.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT

1. International students must meet the entry requirements of the course and english competency requirements as determined by the university; expect
2. International students from countriesusing English as the offical language; or
3. International students who use academic qualifications from institutions that use English as a full medium of instruction and intend to purse higher education in Malaysia.
4. International students who DO NOT meet the requirements to english language competency may be considered with Conditional Offer as follows:-

Attending an internal Preparatory Course at USAS with a maximum time limit of two (2) years, but students are still subject to the rules of the Immigration Department of Malaysia which is in force.

Career Prospects

Graduates have the opportunity to contribute their expertise in Islamic banking and finance in global, multinational and local, as well as non-profit organizations. They can venture into the job market as assistant bank officers at the domestic and international levels, stock brokers and remisers, Zakat Centre administrators, takaful agents, financial consultants, administrative executive assistants, Unit Trust consultants, marketing officers, account executive assistants, entrepreneurs and research assistants.
